England faces injury setback as key player pulls out of last World Cup qualifier vs Albania.(November 14, 2025)

Ahead of England’s final World Cup qualifying match against Albania on Sunday night, Marc Guehi has left the team.

Due to a persistent foot problem, the Crystal Palace defender was left out of the team for Thursday night’s 2-0 victory over Serbia despite joining the squad for their training camp at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week.

Guehi had been missing training because of the “very painful” injury, but Tuchel had previously stated that he hoped he might be able to play in the match against Albania.

However, Guehi has now returned to Palace to concentrate on his recovery, and England will travel to Tirana, the capital of Albania, with a team of 24 players.

Since taking over as England’s head coach, Guehi has developed into a defensive cornerstone that Tuchel would prefer not to be without. He emphasized this point when providing the media with an injury update prior to the team’s match against Serbia.

“With the exception of Marc Guehi, everyone is in training in the afternoon,” Tuchel stated. Marc’s condition is extremely painful, but there is no structural damage, so the pain is the only thing that matters.

We are working realistically toward the second game because there is a chance that things will significantly improve from day to day.

We won’t force him to travel with us if he isn’t able to train on Friday and Saturday. He will, of course, receive rest and care.

“We want him to remain near us and with us.” He is a key team member and one of the leaders. He keeps a lot of players together, and it’s good to see that he’s making every effort to play in the second game. Every day, we will evaluate him.

With their 10th straight clean sheet victory over Serbia this week, England extended a national record thanks in part to Guehi’s defensive prowess.

With a staggering total of 21 points, the Three Lions lead Group K and are seven points ahead of second-place Albania thanks to their perfect record in their World Cup qualifying matches.
