Spanish officials have denied Madrid’s appeal, claiming that Xabi Alonso has more than enough time to prepare his team for the new season. Los Blancos are expected to appeal the decision.While they wait for a final verdict, Madrid has announced preparations to go to Austria to face WSG Tirol seven days before their season begins on August 19.
According to AS, Madrid will not hold a camp in Austria because club executives want to limit the impact of the fixture on their preparations for the upcoming season. Alonso’s team is expected to return from Austria immediately following the match.
The game against WSG Tirol takes place in the middle of Madrid’s 15-day preseason and will be utilized to develop fitness after a three-week hiatus following the Club World Cup.
Tirol is a top-flight club in Austria, however they finished 10th out of 12 clubs in the 2024-25 season, trying to avoid relegation. Clearly, Madrid are heavy favorites to win a game that is viewed as a chance to improve fitness rather than a true competitive battle.
Alonso’s team will then return to Spain for the final few days of training before starting their La Liga campaign against Osasuna.
